Sir Donald Bradman contributed greatly to the administration of the game after his retirement from cricket in 1949. A constant and passionate observer of the game he used his influence to maintain the game’s appeal for the Australian public. Ever wary of slow play, dull batting, negative bowling, defensive field placements and poor sportsmanship, Sir Donald worked to keep the game of cricket vigorous and exciting.

 

Don Bradman was a South Australian State selector from 1935-70, Australian Selector from 1936-52 and from 1953-71, a member of the South Australian Cricket Association Board from 1943-1986, it’s President from 1965-73 and Chairman Australian Board of Control from 1960-63 and from 1969-72. It is estimated that he attended 1,713 South Australian Cricket Association meetings at Adelaide Oval alone. During this period he was closely involved in managing the cricket crises of the South African Apartheid ban in the early 1970s and the advent of World Series Cricket.
