Don Bradman at 17 photographed after scoring the district batting record |
In 1925-26 the Bowral Cricket Club played Moss Vale in the Final of the local competition. Don Bradman’s mother, Emily, promised him a new bat if he scored a hundred in the match. Bradman responded by hitting 300 runs, a district record, and effectively sealing victory for the team. He was just 17 years old. When he returned home he is reputed to have jokingly asked his mother for three new bats!
